Raiders Take Game One of Shaw Cup Final

The Kelowna Raiders nearly blew a five goal lead in the third period but hung on to defeat the visiting Kamloops Rattlers 11 to 10 at a hot, Memorial Arena in downtown Kelowna. The Raiders came out in the second period and scored seven goals, keeping their lead intact from the first period. The Raiders were led by Dave Bannister with three goals and an assist. Bannister penetrated the Kamloops defence and peppered their goalie all evening.  Kamloops battled back in the third with Kelowna taking three penalties and giving Kamloops a chance. A solid team effort from the Raiders gave them the first win of the best of three series in their defense of the Shaw Cup, the Thompson/Okanagan’s symbol of senior men’s lacrosse supremacy in the valley. Kelowna’s other scoring included two each from Eli Wood-Sowcroft and Kyle MacLennan and singles from Steve Plasko, Ryan Spring and Kyle Vandesype. Kamloops scoring came from AJ Lockwood, Jarrod Emery and Curtis Mackintosh each with three goals and a single from Craig Mattioli. Next game is in Kamloops on Wednesday at the Kamloops Memorial Arena 8pm.
