Armstrong Shamrocks 13, Kelowna Raiders 8
It was a totally different Raiders team this week in a rematch with the Shamrocks at the Nor-Val arena in Armstrong. Although coming off a huge loss last week in Kelowna, The Raiders, even though trailing for the first two periods, managed to decisively win the third period with the help of superb goaltending from Graham Cousins and a hot hand from speedster Nick Evans who potted 4 goals in the third period. The Raiders, for the most part, were able to contain Armstrong’s big shooters all evening with solid defensive play. For the second week in a row, Brett Hawrey’s 6 goal performance for the Shamrocks was a deciding factor. The Shamrocks have signed Hawreys along with a few other Senior A level players and have taken advantage of a pool of graduating Jr. players from Armstrong as well as from the Vernon Tigers Jr. club to stack their roster with younger, skilled players. Also scoring for the Shamrocks during the game was Steve Clarke with a pair and singles from Will Hanley, Owen Parker, Kyle Versteeg and Joel Castle. For the Raiders, along with Evans’ 4 goals was a pair from Pho Heng and singles from Joe Brown and Jacob Illichmann.
