The Kelowna Raiders took the first playoff series from the Kamloops Rattlers last evening with a decisive 15 to 8 win at Kelowna Memorial Arena. The Raiders took a 7 to 1 lead after the first period and never allowed the Rattlers to gain any ground on them throughout the rest of the game. The Raider’s superb ball control in the Kamloops end allowed them to set up plays and overwhelm goaltender Mike Smith all evening. Coupled with that was the excellent defence in their own end, limiting Kamloop’s big gun AJ Lockwood to just 2 goals all game. Leading the Raiders in scoring were Jared MacLennan with 4 goals, Pho Heng with 3, Matt Gorges and Ryan Lindstom with pairs and singles from Vic Wiens, Joe Brown, Nick Evans and captain Jacob Illichmann who also ended up with six assists. For the Rattlers it was AJ Lockwood and Russ McIntosh with pairs and singles from Mark Jurista, Chris Kerrsens, Liam Hagerty and Ryan Oliverius.
- The Championship series for the Rowcliffe Cup will start Wed. Aug. 3 against the first place Armstrong Shamrocks in Armstrong at the Nor Val Arena at 7:30pm. The Raiders will be back in Kelowna to host the second game on Friday Aug. 5, 7:30 at Kelowna Memorial.
