Raiders Squeak on by Rattlers
Not only did the team bus show up late, but it took half the game for the Kelowna Raiders start showing up as well. Rolling in to the Kamloops Memorial Arena parking lot with only a few minutes to spare before game time, the Raiders had the scramble to get their gear together and on the floor. The lack of a warm up really showed as the Raiders started the game slow, missing passes and not taking advatnage of scoring opertunities. Raiders were lucky to get out of the 1st period only down by a pair of goals. The 2nd period didn’t start much better and the Raiders took a tumble by having two players ejected and giving up 4 goals. The wheels just were not turning for the Raiders and no one seemed to have the answer after being down 6-2. Half way through the period the Raiders excellent defensive play helped slowly sway momentum their way rubbing off on the offence potting 6 goals tieing the game at 6-6. It was back and forth all the way to the final minute with the Rattlers taking the lead than Raiders tying it back up but it took to the 30 seconds for the Raiders Kyle MacLennan to control the ball. After breaking away from a check with a spinorama move MacLennan potted the game winner with 6 seconds left.
It was an ugly win, but its 2 points the Raiders need to stay atop of the OXLL standings.
Scoring for Kelowna was Kyle MacLennnan with 4g 2a, Pho Heng 3g 3a, Jared MacLennan 1g 3a, Kyle Tomiye 1g 2a, Eli Wood-Scowcroft 1g 1a, Mark MacLennan 2a, Cory Fearon 1a
Next game is Friday May 1 when the Kelowna Raiders take on valley rivals the Vernon Royals. Game time is 7:30pm at Kelowna Memorial Arena, tickets can be purchased at the door.
